Black Sabbath – Paranoid

Ozzy Osbourne - Black SabbathSabbath Bloody Sabbath wasn’t quite the first album I ever bought but it was pretty close to it. My early teenage years belonged to heavy metal rock and Black Sabbath, back in those days, was one of my favourite bands. Ozzy Osbourne is probably better known these days for the antics of his whole family in the reality TV show ‘The Osbournes’ But he was pretty notorious back in the 70’s as well, mainly because Black Sabbath were associated with the occult and any horror theme they could lay their hands on. Ozzy himself was very well known as a result of his drunken and drug related shenanigans. These addictions were probably his worst enemy and ultimately led to him getting fired from Black Sabbath at the end of the 70’s.

This didn’t stop him making music though and he went on with a solo career which ultimately saw him sell over 100 million albums. There is only one reason that happens, and it is talent. Nobody without talent can sell 100 million albums. So despite his addictions and massive over indulgences he still saw huge success and somehow he has managed to still be us today. I think that most people will agree as well that, despite his shambling and sometimes incomprehensible dialogue, there is still a charisma and sense of humour that comes through. Now that he is older, you sort of can’t help thinking it would have been nice if he had come through a little more unscathed and hadn’t indulged quite as much as he did.

The track Paranoid comes from the album of the same name. Love the track but I still think my favorite Black Sabbath album was Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and that is the one I still play occasionally on CD.
